Being Thankful

At Pardon My Stash, we have a lot to be thankful for this year – both as individuals and as a podcast. We are so grateful for the amazing community that has developed over the last year, as a result of starting this little podcast. In this week’s episode, we talk about what we are thankful for – in our personal lives, as part of our knitting journeys, and everything in between.

Special thanks to all of you around the world who tune in every week to listen to us go on and on about knitting. We continue to be amazed and humbled that so many of you take the time out to join us, and we are blown away by the support and love we’ve received and continue to receive from all of you.

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who are celebrating this week, and to all of you, so much love and gratitude for making this podcast and community what it is. We literally could not do it without you.

Starting From Scratch

In this episode, we talk about how to start crafting from the beginning – whether you are just getting into one of the fiber arts, or if you are a seasoned crafter looking to change up your stash, tools, or processes.

Jess has a Mystery Box segment explaining all about ball bands – the tags you find on your skeins of yarn – and why you should pay attention to them. Learn what you need to know!

This is our first episode trying out a new remote system for recording, and we think it worked great! Living in the Northeast we have to deal with all sorts of unpredictable weather during a good part of the year, and we are optimistic that we have (finally!) found a remote system that works so we can keep recording even when the weather isn’t so great. Let us know what you think!

Celebrations:

Drea finished her Seahawks Hestia Beanie!

Yarn is Malabrigo Rios, “Azul Profundo”, and Hundred Ravens Aesir, “Annotated.”

Technology and Crafting

This week, we explore what technology has helped us to grow and improve in knitting and crochet. WE discuss websites (yes, YouTube!), online crafting communities, and the tools, both simple and complex, that have made knitting and crocheting easier and just more fun in general. And in Yakking About Yarn, Tina has a great segment about Jaggerspun Yarns in Maine!

Blocking

This week, we talk about the all-important subject of blocking – the last step to finishing your project. We discuss why it’s so important to block, methods for blocking, the tools you use, and how to McGuyver your blocking in a pinch! Also on Your Friendly Neighborhood Fiber Farm, Drea gives us an in-depth look at Five Sisters Farm in Plainfield, NH, and the beautiful Shetland sheep they raise there!

Celebrations:

Jess started – and finished – the cutest little dragon keychain! Pattern is Supergurumi Aragarumi Crocheted Dragon. Yarn is Critical Hit Dyes Rogue in “Copper Dragon” and “Thunderwave.”

Competition Knitting

This week we are talking about crafting for competition – entering our creations in state and local fairs to be judged (and hopefully receive ribbons)! We talk about the process of entering, tips for submitting your crafts to be judged, and the motivation for doing so — why exactly do we want our works judged?

Celebrations:
Drea gets two this week! First with her finished Amici Cowl:

With bonus Chester, looking totally affronted. No idea know why, it’s a great cowl.

As we were recording, she finished her Fiona Beanie from the Pardon My Stash Fall 2022 MAL (with a twist, she added her own flair to it, as she explains in the episode):

Yarn is Critical Hit Dyes Druid DK, in the colorway “Wild Magic” (experimental color dyeing, one of a kind).

Rhinebeck 2022 Recap

To say that Rhinebeck 2022 far exceeded our expectations is an understatement. The cast of Pardon My Stash went to Rhinebeck in the hopes that even one listener would find us and introduce themselves, and the response from you all was overwhelming, humbling, and exhilaration. As Drea said so many times “the dopamine was so high!” In this episode, we talk about the wonderful experience we had, the people we met, and how grateful and humbled we are that this podcast we created has made a positive impact on our listeners!

Photos from Rhinebeck:

Drea got to pet a llama!

We met so many amazing people at Rhinebeck! We were so grateful and humbled at the outpouring of love and enthusiasm we received from our listeners who took the time to come up to us and introduce themselves at Rhinebeck. It was the best part of the entire day.

Our group photo underneath the Rhinebeck Tree!

As in previous years, we got silly.

It really was the best day. Join us for our latest episode to hear all the details!

Celebrations:

Jess finished her Norrland hat!

Tina stuck to her Rhinebeck budget (hear her talk more on the podcast about going in with a goal and sticking with it).

Current WIPs (mentioned in this week’s episode):

Drea: Amici Cowl

Meg: Dark Academia Sweater

Road to Rhinebeck 2022

We are just a few days away from the 2022 New York Sheep and Wool Festival (better known as Rhinebeck) and we couldn’t be more excited! The cast discusses plans and goals for Rhinebeck, what we are looking forward to most, and our best tips and tricks for getting the most out of whatever fiber festival (Rhinebeck or otherwise) you may be attending! Will you be joining us on the #pmscaravan?

Celebrations:

Drea finished her Adventurous cardigan!

This beautiful pattern by Joji Locatelli is Drea’s VERY FIRST sweater, and is made from Cloudborn Fibers Pima Cotton DK in the colorway “Burgundy.” The bindoff was a nailbiter – check out the reel on our Instagram page to see Drea eeking out those last few inches (a very supportive Frank has the assist)!

Meg finished her Jazzagal sweater!

Pattern designed by Mary Annarella, yarn is Hedgehog Fibers Skinny Singles in the colorway “Pet Rock.” This is Meg’s second handknit sweater, but first adult size sweater.

Jess finished an eagle!

Part of the Feathered Friends collection by Moji-Moji Designs, this little angry eagle is made from various colors of Sugar ‘N Cream cotton, and is currently flying its way to California with Jess’s aunt.

Current WIPs (mentioned on this week’s episode):

Drea: Amici Cowl

Meg: Fiona

Tina: Dark Academia test knit

Jess: Norrland
